Dementia Café in Worcestershire Gains BBC Recognition for Community Support

AshwellCare is proud to support the launch of the new Dementia Café in Upton upon Severn, a community focused initiative designed to support people living with dementia and their families. Recently featured by the BBC, the café reflects the strength of local partnerships and a shared commitment to creating safe, welcoming spaces for those affected by dementia.

The journey began with a simple introduction. Steve Vaughan, CEO of Worcester Warriors Rugby Club, connected our team with Carol and the Worcester Warriors Foundation. After visiting their established Dementia Café in Worcester, we saw first hand the positive impact these sessions can have. The warmth, understanding and practical support offered to attendees highlighted the importance of providing a space where people feel comfortable, valued and connected. Inspired by this experience, AshwellCare began working alongside the Foundation to bring a similar service to Upton upon Severn.

Following further meetings, it was clear that both organisations shared the same values and community focused approach. With support from the Bransford Trust, the vision quickly became a reality. Upton Rugby Club kindly provided a welcoming venue, volunteers stepped forward to offer their time and care, and local councillors have shown ongoing support by attending sessions and helping to raise awareness across the area. The result is a partnership driven by compassion, collaboration and a desire to ensure that no one faces dementia alone.

The Dementia Café now takes place every other Tuesday from 10.30am to 12.00pm at Upton Rugby Club. The sessions provide a relaxed and supportive environment where people living with dementia and their loved ones can connect with others, enjoy conversation and access valuable support within the community.
