AshwellCare Dementia Cafe Is Changing Lives, One Cuppa at a Time

Nine months ago, we opened our doors for the very first time, unsure exactly what to expect but hopeful about the difference we could make. Today, we’re proud to look back on those nine months and see just how much of a difference AshwellCare Dementia Cafe has made to people living with dementia and their families, right here in our local community.

A Warm Welcome, Every Time

From day one, our simple promise has been this: enter as newcomers, leave as friends. Whether it’s someone’s very first visit or their fiftieth, everyone who walks through our doors is greeted with a smile, a warm drink, and genuine company. There’s no pressure, no formality – just a relaxed space where people living with dementia and their carers can relax, connect, and simply be themselves.

A Partnership That Makes It Possible

None of this would be possible without our fantastic partnership with the Worcester Warrior Foundation, whose support has helped us build a cafe that’s about far more than just tea and biscuits. Together, we’ve been able to create activities, outings, and moments of connection that bring real joy and purpose to everyone who attends.

What We Get Up To

Over the past nine months, our cafe has become a genuine hub of activity and friendship, including:

  • Weekly social sessions with games, music, and reminiscence activities
  • Support and advice for carers, family members, and loved ones
  • A listening ear for anyone who needs one — no judgement, no rush
  • New friendships that have blossomed between people who might never otherwise have met

The Difference It’s Making

Dementia can be an isolating experienc, for those living with it and for the people who care for them. What we’ve seen over these nine months is that a simple, welcoming space can go a long way towards easing that isolation. Carers have told us how much it means to have somewhere to bring their loved one where they feel understood. Attendees have told us how much they look forward to their weekly visit. And volunteers have told us how much they get back from being part of something so meaningful.

Come and See for Yourself

If you haven’t visited us yet, we’d love for you to pop along. Whether you’re living with dementia, caring for someone who is, or simply curious about what we do – all are welcome.

Come and see what we get up to. We promise you’ll leave with a smile – and a new friend or two.
